Roger Federer

Roger Federer was born on 8 August 1981 in Binningen, near Basel, Switzerland, to a Swiss father and South African mother and holds dual nationality. He started his professional tennis career in 1998. These photos were taken at an interview and autograph session at the Emmen Shopping Centre, near Lucerne, Switzerland on 14 October 2004. The public turned up in droves with some 2000 fans wanting to see Roger Federer, who had become world No. 1 on 2 February 2004 in Wimbledon. Federer went on to hold the No. 1 title for 237 consecutive weeks. At the time of writing (April 2012), Federer has won a total of 16 Grand Slams, is still hungry for more and looking to regain his world No. 1 spot. Roger Federer is married to Slovakian-born Mirka Vavrinec, who moved to Switzerland at the age of two with her parents. She was a former Swiss professional tennis player who had to give up her career in 2002 following a foot injury. The two met in 2000 at the Olympic Games and married in April 2009 – a low-key affair with just family and friends. They now have twin daughters, Myla Rose and Charlene Riva. Mirka Federer took on the role of Roger Federer’s press and PR manager and travels with him on the ATP tour.
